Northfield Township is located halfway between Ann Arbor and Brighton off of U.S. 23, encompassing 36 square miles and home to the area known as Whitmore Lake. Our township boasts extreme beauty, with rolling countryside, centennial farms, and a rural character that feels miles away but only minutes from the City.

Location

Whitmore Lake is only 9 miles north of Ann Arbor and 9 miles south of Brighton. It has easy access to US-23 allowing you to easily head into downtown Ann Arbor and other metro areas. To the west of Whitmore Lake is Pinckney and to the east is South Lyon and Novi.

Demographics
​
Whitmore Lake is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community spans the boundary between Green Oak Township in Livingston County and Northfield Township in Washtenaw County. The United States Census Bureau has defined a census-designated place (CDP) with this name for statistical purposes, which has no legal status as an incorporated municipality. The population was 6,423 at the 2010 census.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6,574 people, 2,663 households, and 1,741 families residing in Whitmore Lake. The population density was 1,508.5 per square mile. There were 2,960 housing units at an average density of 679.2 per square mile. There were 2,663 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 25.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.94.
